5 out of 5 stars Bloody Good!   January 1, 2009

I couldn't have asked for a better survival horror game than this! I find the latest games have been less fun, maybe too serious, not since Bioshock and Resident Evil 4 have i enjoyed gaming as much as this. Granted survival horror is my type of thing, but i consider this as good as both of those and thats saying a lot.

The gameplay is great, i didn't find it repetitive or easy, the tools (weapons) are solid, and i particularly enjoyed stasis, kineses and the zero-gravity zones are very well done. There's a lot of "jump" moments and times where you don't want to enter a room. Not since the older residents evils have i had that problem, that was when i was 12ish, now i'm 20 and it takes a lot more to do that! The monsters are great, much more variety than i was expecting, and the bosses are big. But the best thing about it is the story. It really is film worthy. And i actually enjoyed Downfall, the poorly animated movie released just before the game, about events before the crew of Kellion reach USG Ishimura, because of the story.

I really look forward to the next game/s to follow on, as there are questions to be answered, especially after the last moment of the game.

4 out of 5 stars a bit short   December 31, 2008

this is a brilliant game if you like the resident evil series but unlike them it is far too short. in the first day I had it I had reached the 10 chapter and there are only 12.

5 out of 5 stars tour de force   December 27, 2008
this game is a graphical and sound tour de force. absolutely amazing in both areas. the animation and dismemberment is amazing. If i have one complaint, it is the use of ragdoll physics which make dead limbs seem weightless. other than that, this game is amazing/

i saw 1 person on amazon complain the game was too dark and complained of stiff movements, not the case. Its a beautiful game, and though there are dark areas, its not soo dark its impossible to see, and let me just add, this game is a survival horror.

survival horror means that the game isn't supposed to be all action, your character isn't supposed to be someone that can move around like superman or something. That is what creates the tension. some of the things act dead and as you walk close, they come to life. IT IS GREAT.

if resident evil 4 style gameplay is your thing, then this definitely the for you. just remember, aiming for the head in this game is a good way of dying, you've got to take off their limbs.

3 out of 5 stars Frustrated and spooked   December 25, 2008
Got it today, played a little and was a little disappointed. The sound design is superb and spine-chilling in the first instances you hear of it in a chapter, after that I found it monotonous and quite annoying. I felt the 3rd person camera wasn't responsive as I would have liked and was too restrictive. I'm sure alot of people would argue that it adds to the suspense.

I would give EA alot of kudos for venturing into the unknown and releasing a next-gen horror FPS. Frankly, I almost shat myself when a Necromorph 'popped' out of nowhere and attacked me from the side. Because of it, I killed it and stomped on it's severed head several times. Then turned fright into glee as I stomped wildly GTA style.

At least I know i'm not built for this type of game. Even Resident Evil 4 had me hiding behind the sofa. If this was a film I could watch it happily. Don't buy this game if you cannot stomach the thought of eating and talking about excrement at the same time.

5 out of 5 stars """"""""""DEAD SPACE"""""""""""""""FANTASTIC GAME"""""""""   December 23, 2008
To be honest,I tend to only buy things after reading other peoples reviews(but am going to change that,to what the majority say,and just ignore the ones who deliberately set out to be different)!!!! Having received this game from Amazon just last week,I must admit i was very impressed with it(It asks you at the start to adjust the darkness for your screen! Some people may struggle with that as it requires moving the left cursor a couple of clicks)After doing the hard bit it gets easier:-),like having to dismember Necromorphs(Weird half human half alien creatures)who really want to put a dampener on you day.Only on the third level(apparently there's 12)took me 4 and a half hours to do the first two.Great story, great gameplay, great graphics.Does get very eary in parts, when things jump out of air vents and the like(which for me is what these games are all about)So i think it's a fantastic game ,and the only problem i have is getting the young one to go to bed so i can continue with it(so i might get a few months worth out of it)
