1 out of 5 stars What an AWFUL game...   July 23, 2008
This game is SO repetitive, slash, hack, swipe... conan is TOO BIG and the enemies are all the same in their attacks, graphics are NOT what a ps3 game should be, if you want a stab and slash game to buy, get rise of the argonauts whenit comes out in a month or two. quite simply, dont get this game if you want to enjoy your life!!!!

3 out of 5 stars hack n slash   June 26, 2008
Well i bought this game a while ago and its not the greatest game ever made nor is it a seriously bad game, but it does give hours of fun where you can switch off and just hack n slash away. the graphics arent in the same league as assasins creed but they do the job, plent of gore to be seen arms and legs getting chopped off left right n centre. at first its fairly simple and easy to get into then gets harder as the game progresses, the puzzles arent realy that hard, good point or bad point depends on what you like really, theres plenty of combinations of weapons and fighting styles but to be honest you dont need them ,pick the weapon you like and button bash away.if you liked golden axe and other retro side scrollers then this will be up your street, if your a shoot em up person id leave this alone.
me my self i enjoyed playing this more than assasins creed which was just the same tasks over and over again,

4 out of 5 stars Very underrated!!! This game rocks!   June 17, 2008

Conan was a game i didn't really care much about before release. It didn't look particularly interesting in all of the footage and media shown. The graphics appeared relatively dated and the gameplay made it look like a God-of-war clone which probably wouldn't be as good. After waiting a while and playing the demo from the PSN i was intrigued as the game seemed like it might be quite fun. I finally picked the game up from Amazon at about 8.00 and i was shocked at how awesome this game is!! I mean don't get me wrong, it may not be the next block buster title you were waiting for. But it sure isn't the shovel-ware that many people & review sites have pegged it to be, and for under 10 you really can't go wrong with this one. The visials are actually quite nice, def not Uncharted or Heavenly Sword standard but nice enough that they don't detract from the gameplay at all. There are some low-res textures here and there but the overall level & character designs are very nice, so along with the camera perspective, you kinda don't notice unless you're really looking out for it. I'd say graphically it's on par with GTAIV. The story is the high point as it's told very well and is quite interesting (so far, as i haven't completed it yet). The characters are very likeable and the voice acting is solid. Overall, not comparing this game to any other game in it's genre (as i believe that's how reviews should be done) this is a fun and enjoyable game. As i mentioned before, for the price it's a damn steal (maybe all the low reviews were a good thing in this regard). I'd give it a 7.5-8.0 out of ten as it's not perfect, but it's a solid and enjoyable game. A must for any PS3 owner who's waiting for the next blockbuster.

3 out of 5 stars Violence Overdose   April 27, 2008

Conan is a missed opportunity. The game has the right ingredients but they just weren't developed the right way. The truth is Conan is very entertaining. You have numerous combos which have devastating results on the enemies, resulting in decapitations, severed arms and numerous other "fun" deaths. Conan can flip a guy in the air and cut him in half and as he falls to the floor, his intestine falls out as blood gushes like a fountain. It's this kind of extreme violence we're talking about. This makes Conan a fun Hack'n'Slash. However, as you advance in the game, the number of enemies increases dramatically as does their quality. None of them is extremely hard to kill, however they gang up on you and any kind of combo becomes close to impossible. You just use the strong/light combo, mashing triangle or square and trying to roll away when surrounded. It takes a lot out of the game. There are also a lot of bosses. This is where things start to get messy. I like bosses and these are old school. They're big and mean. They are not impossible to kill but they take a long time and can become frustrating and annoying. You fight them in rounds. After you deplete their energy once, you go to the next round where they have a new combo or a new attack. They're about three rounds each. They also require that you push certain buttons, as they flash in the screen at the end of each round which can be hard if you don't have good reflexes and don't pay close attention. This brings us to the worst part of the game. The final boss is just awful. I dare you not to lose your temper while fighting him. On normal difficulty it took me 48 minutes to beat him. You cannot save during the fight so you must go through all the rounds at once or start from the beginning, the next time. I cannot stress enough how infuriating this boss is. He's hard but he's mostly annoying. He's cheap and dull and really, and I mean really, takes away most of the fun you've had until that point.
Also frustrating are the platform sections. Conan's movements and jumps are clumsy and the camera is a mess. You can easily miss jumps. They're awkward and the fixed camera doesn't help. The camera is also a problem in the final boss battle. Many times I couldn't see Graven, which is essential to predict his moves and know when to attack. There is no excuse for this.
There are also puzzles but they are so easy, they are hardly worth mentioning.
The graphics are also fairly uninspired. After you've seen games like Uncharted or Ratchet and Clank: TOD, Conan really looks bad. The water is laughable; the cut scenes are stiff and the voice acting bellow par. Even Ron Pearlman who is an actor I highly appreciate seems to be phoning it in. The game could also be longer. It took me 8:30 hours to finish and I'm a slow gamer.
Still it's not all bad. The music is perfect for the atmosphere. There are a lot of maidens with their bare breasts who need rescue and of course there's carnage, a lot of carnage. Imaginative carnage.
Conan is an entertaining game even with all its problems. I'll play it again, when I want a mindless, gory, fun game. If you can get pass the PS2 graphics and like bosses or are a patient gamer who loves a challenge, give it a try. If you want or expect an unforgettable experience, play God of War. Conan is a testosterone filled, violent, crude, game. A guilty pleasure that I enjoyed and am glad to have in my collection even with all its flaws.

this game is a complete waste of time, money, space and brainpower. The graphics on this are completely and utterly crap. Now i could write my real feelings about this game but im afraid it may make little children cry. The gameplay is poor, the cutscenes are poor and everything else is poor. Whoever made this game should be disgusted with themselves for making such a monstrosity. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!
