Hall of Fame Game designer, Sid Meier, has been called "The Father of Computer Gaming" with such early hits as F-15 Stealth Fighter, Railroad Tycoon, and Pirates. He put computer gaming on the map however, in 1991, when he delivered Sid Meier's Civilization to the gaming world launching the "God Game" genre and creating one of the most award winning and addicting games on the planet. Civilization remains one of the world's top selling PC game series with over 8 million units sold and is recognized by the press as one of the greatest game franchises ever created.

In Civilization, players strive to become Ruler of the World by establishing and leading a civilization from the dawn of man into the space age waging war, conducting diplomacy, discovering technologies, going head-to-head with some of history's greatest leaders, and building the most powerful empire the world has ever known.

Civilization Revolution Features

Choose Your Civ - Choose from 16 Civilizations throughout history (from Africa to Germany to America to China) to lead to victory. Each time you defeat a rival civilization you'll add an exhibit to your Hall of Achievements paying homage to your great accomplishments. With so many Civs and Leaders to play, you'll have a new and exciting experience with every game.

Lead Your Civ - When you choose a Civ play as one of the world's most famous historical leaders (like Abe Lincoln, Otto von Bismarck, and Mao Zedong) and compete against the other leaders as you strive to create your own history in this epic game. Each leader will have 4 special abilities giving their Civ unique advantages throughout the ages.

Real-Time Interaction - Leaders and advisors will actively communicate with you - even turning and pointing to things in the world as they speak - making the interactions more realistic and engaging than ever before.

Explore The World - Your quest to explore and discover will have you traversing the globe in search of long lost relics, rival civs, technologies, barbarians and much more.

Fast-paced Action - Accessible maps and streamlined time scale will deliver quicker games and constant action.

Intense Combat - Triple your strength by combining up to three units into one powerful army and destroy your enemies. When your units win tough battles, they will become veterans and then elites. You can then choose from a list of powerful upgrades that will give elite units even more strength to dominate in war. Your Army will wear a distinct uniform representing your Civilization, so you will easily see them on the screen as you lead them into battle.

Civilopedia - an invaluable in-game multi-media resource that informs and entertains players with authentic videos, pictures and background information about the real world elements in Civilization.

3 out of 5 stars Released too early, more work required imo   December 30, 2008
Everything has been covered in the reviews so I will give only my opinion to the game.

Each map is small and I mean SMALL. There are four options for victory; a technological victory, a Cultural victory etc. This method is okay in theory but poorly executed, as victory is far too easily achieved, leaving most of your time having little skirmishes just outside of your base with the enemy. It is quite boring.

All you need to do is build a base, get plenty of units, team them into an armies, have a load of them (the tanks are the best) and attack the opposition. It's so easy to take over an enemy base its ridiculous! If you want to win a Technological victory etc, that is just as easy to achieve. Make sure you build military to defend your base whilst you research and build the structures required leaving you practically untouchable.

The biggest annoyance about this game is that it randomly ends games and I mean RANDOMLY! I've had games end after 4 minutes leaving me like WTF?!?! With the winner obviously being the person closest to one of the 4 victory options. This can be so infuriating! Another annoyance is the opposition, they keep requesting knowledge on technologies or demanding that one of your people to join them and if you say okay, they will leave you alone for a couple of turns then they are back in your face wanting more. So I tended to just ignored them, but when you have 3 enemies & they are all after a piece of you, it really can become so annoying. It isn't there to test your ability, it isn't there to test your resolve, it's probably there to test your patience because I'll be honest, my patience was lost due to this incessant nagging!

You should be able to play a game until you either win or lose, not have the game jack it in after a couple of minutes. There are too many niggly irritations with this game and although I did have fun on occasion, I was left baffled by some of the things that the developers overlooked prior to release. It just doesn't feel like it is finished.

It's great that this kind of game has been released on the PS3 and I hope many more follow as I like the genre. This title just needed more work. There were touches of brilliance but unfortunately, these were highly overshadowed by many issues which really is a big shame.

2 out of 5 stars Way way way too easy   December 2, 2008
What a pretty game. Lovely visuals and some really nice concepts.

Shame I just managed to complete it on medium difficulty in 1 hour. I've spent the last hour trying to make the game harder for myself just to try and wring out an extra bit of value. Surely I'm missing something?

I guess it must be all about the multiplayer option, since single player just isn't challenging and could be completed by a four year old. I can remember spending days playing Colonization on the PC, painstakingly weighing up my liberty bells and my military units to try and get enough sentiment and manpower to declare my independence, and when I was ready to go to war with the English, I was really satisfied to enjoy the fruits of my labour. None of this effort or satisfaction comes from this game though. Someone please tell me another god game I can play that might take me a bit of time and graft. Please.

1 out of 5 stars I want my money back!!!   November 23, 2008

I am a big fan of Civilization ... but what is this?! Civilization REVOLUTION?? There is nothing revolutionary on this game! The map is too small (YES, there is only one tiny sized map). This means that you are always right next to your enemies. There is basically nothing you can change on the map (tropical, deserts, ... nothing). Plus, you cannot change the number of players, the era, ... And, you cannot even change the number of players!

The game is pretty nice to play and has got SOME revolutionary aspects... However, there are two things that irritate me hugely:
1. There is almost no point to build Wonders as by the time you build it, someone else will invent a technology that will make it obsolete. Generally, the research speed is too fast and the technology tree is too short
2. You cannot automate cities production! This sounds like a small issue, but I found it a big burden to manage production in each city, especially once you get over 10 cities... with this huge irritation, the fun factor is decreased dramatically!

The Online Multiplayer is also not great. Ok, I played only twice but with those limitations mentioned above, it wasn't much fun.

I understand that if you are a fan of Civilization, you will want to try this game... but I strongly encourage you to rent it for 2 days and I promise you that it will be enough (especially if you ever played Civilization before!).

This is also my first review on Amazon... and, I am sorry for such a negative review... but this game was such a disappointment. Tomorrow, I am trading this game in ...

3 out of 5 stars Fun, addictive but somewhat lacking.   November 7, 2008

I recently purchased a PS3 and the other day I was on a hunt to find a game or two to keep me occupied. I spied Civ Rev peeking at me from a bottom shelf in Game and it had a pretty sale sticker on it. I've been a massive fan of Civ 2 for years, and to this very day still play it (mainly at work but shush about that ;p) so given this, along with the fact it seemed to score quite well in reviews, I thought I'd give it a go.

So I get home and stick the game in (and make a cup of tea whilst waiting for the installation). I wasn't quite sure what to think of the more cartoony approach to graphics but I thought I'd bear with it and get stuck in.

One of the first things that I found interesting was how each race had a different bonus that became active at various points in the game, meaning you would have to vary your strategy depending on who you were and who you were against.

Another thing I like about this game is it has various ways to win, in the form of Domination, Economy, Culture and Technology, meaning that if you're against an opponent with a strong army that you just can't overcome you could learn all the games advancements and build a spaceship and still win (although by far the easiest way to win the game is to build an army and trample the other races).

I started play on the easiest mode just to get to grips with things and, after a few tips for the games advisers, I was away... and therein lies my biggest issue with this game. Even if I had never played it before I could still have been 'away' after such little information. It doesn't seem to matter what technology you learn or what you build, as long as you have a half decent army then you're pretty much guaranteed a victory... of pretty much any kind you like, or so it seems each time I've played it.

Once you establish a foothold as the strongest race it seems to be just a matter of time before you win. Each time I've played I have been in a situation where I could pick what sort of victory I wanted then just ride it out to the end, which really takes the fun out of things. There is an addictive quality to this though, as even when victory is certain, you HAVE to see it to the end. Anyway, I digress..

On the whole this game seemed to me like a kids version of Civ, and certainly not on a par with the older games. It lacks the depth and complexity, and is stupidly easy even with the difficulty ramped up. On civ 2 I still sometimes struggle on the easiest setting, as one bad decision can lead to long term crisis, whereas in the latest incarnation you can easily recoup.

The bottom line: if I want a relatively quick fix of Civ I will play this game happily, but generally I'll be sticking with the older versions if I want a serious game.

3 out of 5 stars A Real Shame   November 4, 2008

The PS3 needs games like this or it will be all first person shooters and racing games...

But this is Civ-lite as has been said before. The world you play in is small, with only a couple of other civs to go up against. You only need to build 4 or 5 cities.

It's a real pity as the battles are superb and the best ever in the series- creating armies and watching them be promoted to different ranks is really enjoyable.

Can consoles STILL not handle these games?! How long will it be? Xbox 720? Playstation 6?
