This title is an updated version of The Godfather which was launched for PC, Playstation 2, Xbox360 and more. After some time, Electronic Arts decided to launch this game for Playstation 3 too with some enhancements and they named it as “The Godfather: The Dons Edition”. Developers have included some new features and new content in this version though it is more or less the same game which was released a year ago.
You start off the game as an unofficial enforcer for the Corleone family and your job is to threaten the merchants to pay Corleones for protection. In order to do this, you need to walk into the store and talk to the owner and if they don’t agree to pay you by a simple talk then you destroy the furniture or hit them on their face to make them feel the need of protection. Once you take over the control of a shop, you get a weekly payout and you can use this income to purchase weapon upgrades, buy safe houses and more.
Taking over the rackets is not the only thing to be done in the game as the game has a good number of storyline missions. As the game progresses, you will also get some hit contracts in which you need to kill someone by some particular weapon in order to get the better pay. As you continue to play the missions, your rank improves in the family and the ultimate goal of the game is to become the don of New York City.
New York City has been divided into streets of Little Italy, Midtown, Hell’s Kitchen, New Jersey and Brooklyn and all of these are controlled by different families and you need to destroy their compounds in order to take control of the region. To improve your weekly income, you need to take control of the warehouses as these will provide a good amount of income but it will take a good fight to take over the control. Also, your income increases as you continue to improve your rank in the family and also by taking control of more businesses.
During the game, you can steal vehicles, run over the pedestrians and as you commit these crimes, the heat level increases and police will try to hunt you down though you can bribe them to decrease the heat level and one of the new feature included in The Don’s Edition is that you can bribe the policemen to fight from your side. Another feature included in the plantation 3 version is the hit squad. Once you achieve the rank of an Associate, you can call a squad of four people to follow you and to assist you in the fights.
The game also offers different weapons and different explosives and you can purchase the upgrades from the black market merchants which can be found using the map. As the game progresses and you continue to take over businesses, complete missions, take over new rackets, you will earn respect points. Once you reach sufficient respect points, you can improve your skills which include shooting, fighting, running, health and you will continue to learn useful tricks.
At the end, it’s a nice action packed story based game and is worth a shot if you have not played the previous version.
