Army of Two is a third person action strategy game recently released by Electronic Arts. It’s the second, third person shooter strategy game to be released on the PS3. Army of Two is all about strategies and tactics, and as the name suggests, you never fight alone – master two-man combat with a live AI partner to form the deadliest private military partnership a government can buy.
General gameplay consists of running and gunning along with your smartly thought out tactics. The artificial intelligence is well balanced, but some rookies might find oppositions hard to overcome. The general controls feel frustrating at first, especially if you are used to playing first person shooters, but after a good few hours, you do start to get used to them. There are a nice selection of weapons to play with, which are all customizable and upgradable, which can be shared with your partner.
 There gear looks intimiedating!
You can play Army of Two, either by yourself, or online with others, either is entertaining, but playing online is the most exciting. There are two gaming modes, campaign (co-op) mode and versus mode. Co-op is no longer a mode, it’s the game. Team up with a live or AI partner on two-man missions using two-man tactics to ultimately create an advantage that no enemy can withstand. Versus mode is only playable online, warzone, bounties and extraction are different types of game scenarios which you can choose from. If you do decide to play offline you will find that your AI (computer) partner adapts, collaborates and learns from the way you play. The PAI will also react and adjust to the gamer ability and how they play the game by taking the lead of following, driving strategy or taking orders. It is the dream of the human machine.
The graphics alone make Army of Two a joy to play, they really are superb. Alot of detail can be noticed in the soldiers, they look very intimidating with their custom mercenary gear on. You will discover many slick moves available for your soldier to perform when in battle, all easily accessible from the D-pad. There are plenty of different environments to explore, including fluid dynamics that showcase open-ocean water-wave simulation. Electronic Arts have made great use of HD (high definition), providing a near realistic looking game. Intros in Army of Two are so realistic that you may think you were watching a war movie.
Its all about teamwork.
The games audio is of high quality. The music is decent, consisting of battle themes that are nowhere near as irritating as the rock tune in EA’s recent TV ad. However, the voice work really shines, with a lot of humour, and of course, aggression. When spraying your machine gun, the great sound effects really help to add more realism in to the game. The few minor faults found in Army of Two, slight lack of content and some teamwork flaws, should defiantly not put you off buying the game. Hours of entertainment are guaranteed for any true Playstation 3 shooter lover. It’s definitely worth adding to your collection.
